Always The Right Time

Posted by Diane P. on Friday, September 12th, 2008

“It is always the right time for children who are being born and formed in mind, body and spirit every minute as life goes on.” Those words, written by Marian Wright Edelman in 1996, stand out to me every day here at Children’s Village. Each day over 70 children and their families come to Children’s Village in Yakima or Sunnyside, or someone from Children’s Village goes out to their home. Each day the staff and families of Children’s Village live out the reality of the challenges to support the mind, body and spirit of children with special needs.

Autism - Note To A Friend

Posted by Ali M. on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

To my dearest Adriel –

It was so good to see you tonight – you’re getting so big, so tall.
You know you made my night – when I reached out for a hug and you leapt into my arms and you wrapped yourself around me.
That moment was….

A Picture Worth More Than Words

Posted by Ali M. on Thursday, August 21st, 2008

For the families and the children that come to Children’s Village, the bridge that you must cross to enter is significant.  Yesterday I was handed a picture that a grandparent took of her grandson’s recreation of Children’s Village.  Her grandson frequents the Village for services.

Using pieces of wood, rocks, paint, screws, and glue this young boy constructed his version of the Village.  Upon showing his grandma what he created, she asked, “What is this?”  He responded, “It’s Children’s Village - See, that’s it, and there is the bridge, and the water, and the rock with the words on it.”  He points.  The rock of particular shape had been articulately placed in an upright position mimicing the large rock located at the front of the bridge at Children’s Village.

Just amazed at his level of detail and thought, the boy’s grandma paused for a moment, then questioned, “Rock?  with words on it??  What does it say?”

Without hesitation, he answers, “It says, ‘It takes both the sun and the rain to make a rainbow’.”
