With knowledge comes power.. and money
Seems every time someone tours Children’s Village and begins to understand the power that takes place, they give. How can you not? Knowledge of the work, the mission, the impact, gives visitors the power to change and life. For some… it is the first time they have every understood that. WE have to continue to educate, educate, [...]
Quote For The Day
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own [...]
Six minutes
Children’s Village depends on community support, and on local donations through Children’s Miracle Network. Yesterday, October 9th, was the first of three days of our local radiothon broadcast on 1280AM KIT and 107.3FM.
Mike from KIT was at the Village, interviewing doctors from both Children’s Village and Seattle Children’s. As we prepared for the interviews, Mike [...]
Walking through the Village
As I toured visitors through Children’s Village, I was reminded over and over again what a remarkable place it is… A place children with special needs and their families can come and feel comfortable, like their right at home with their friends and family. A place of complete inclusion; a place that believes all children [...]
Always The Right Time

“It is always the right time for children who are being born and formed in mind, body and spirit every minute as life goes on.” Those words, written by Marian Wright Edelman in 1996, stand out to me every day here at Children’s Village. Each day over 70 children and their families come to Children’s Village in Yakima or Sunnyside, or someone from Children’s Village goes out to their home. Each day the staff and families of Children’s Village live out the reality of the challenges to support the mind, body and spirit of children with special needs.
Dreams…
You have dreams for your child — even before he is born into this world…
You dream he will run and play, go to the beach and to the park — You wonder, will he like baseball? Or, music?
Then, he is born — and, in the midst of silence and wide-eyes — you pray he will [...]
A Picture Worth More Than Words

For the families and the children that come to Children’s Village, the bridge that you must cross to enter is significant. Yesterday I was handed a picture that a grandparent took of her grandson’s recreation of Children’s Village. Her grandson frequents the Village for services.
Using pieces of wood, rocks, paint, screws, and glue this young boy constructed [...]
Children’s Doc inspired to wear Denim
Today I had the honor of meeting world-renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Vincent Mosca.
Known for his work in limb lengthening and treating conditions such as congenital dislocated hip and club foot, Dr. Mosca maintains a full-schedule at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, and for more than 15 years has been coming to [...]
Autism - Note To A Friend

To my dearest Adriel –
It was so good to see you tonight – you’re getting so big, so tall.
You know you made my night – when I reached out for a hug and you leapt into my arms and you wrapped yourself around me.
That moment was….
I could tell you were tired. No sign language tonight. Every day is different – today may not have been a “good day” for you.
Autism Awareness Night

Saturday night over 2,600 people attended the Yakima Bears game for Autism Awareness Night. What an amazing night! A win and fireworks and a lot of joy. There were tons of families and red shirts with 1:150 written on them. Representing of course, the current estimates that 1 in 150 [...]
