Thanks for visiting! As I toured visitors through Children’s Village, I was reminded over and over again what a remarkable place it is…  A place children with special needs and their families can come and feel comfortable, like their right at home [...]

Always The Right Time

Posted by Diane P. on Friday, September 12th, 2008

“It is always the right time for children who are being born and formed in mind, body and spirit every minute as life goes on.” Those words, written by Marian Wright Edelman in 1996, stand out to me every day here at Children’s Village. Each day over 70 children and their families come to Children’s Village in Yakima or Sunnyside, or someone from Children’s Village goes out to their home. Autism - Note To A Friend

To my dearest Adriel –

It was so good to see you tonight – you’re getting so big, so tall.
You know you made my night – when I reached out for a hug and you leapt into my arms and you wrapped yourself around me.
That moment was….

I could tell you were tired. No sign language tonight. Every day is different – today may not have been a “good day” for you.

Children’s Doc inspired to wear Denim

Posted by Ali M. on Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Today I had the honor of meeting world-renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Vincent Mosca.

Known for his work in limb lengthening and treating conditions such as congenital dislocated hip and club foot, Dr. Mosca maintains a full-schedule at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, and for more than 15 years has been coming to Yakima for outreach clinics.

Not knowing anything about this highly regarded doc, I was compelled to meet him when I was told that he wanted to participate in our “Building Dreams while Wearing Jeans” campaign.  This Children’s Village employee campaign allows staff to wear jeans on Fridays for $2 — all proceeds go toward the Children’s Village Capital Campaign Fund.

Dr. Mosca, not aware of the cost to wear jeans nor any details of the campaign, turns to Children’s Village RN, JoAnn Jennings — “I want to be a part of this - here’s $20.”  “Please donate anything that’s left.”
