When a family first learns of a new diagnosis for their child, it can be difficult to know who to go to for support or who to ask for help. This relationship begins with the new diagnosis, develops with check-ins through phone calls or visits and over time, continues at informal activities like the family support group meetings or family socials organized by Children’s Village. Little by little, these small steps help a family to feel more comfortable to share and seek support. Facilitators and fellow parents help to mentor and guide new parents through this journey. Relationship building is an important component of the services offered at Children’s Village.
